PROVIDENCE - Just back from the Mal Brown scrimmage held this afternoon at Providence College.

First off, Sharaud Curry and sophomore forward Jamine Peterson were held out of the scrimmage due to minor injuries. There is no reason to panic here. Both practiced and looked good on Friday afternoon. Peterson dominated the offensive boards, in fact, and has easily been the most productive frontcourt player. If the Friars had a real game today, both Curry and Peterson would've played and started.

Marshon Brooks led the Black team to a 43-32 win over the Silver team. Brooks scored 18 points on 6-of-13 shooting and also grabbed 5 rebounds. He basically did whatever he wanted to off the dribble and also ran the court very well.

After Brooks, finding many offensive highlights would be a challenge. Duke Mondy, a guard from Grand Rapids, Mich., led the Silver team with 11 points, including three 3-pointers. He looks like the most confident shooter of any of the freshmen guards.

Vincent Council (1-of-7) struggled with his shot but pushed the tempo nicely....James Still (1-of-8) likes to get off shots quickly...Russ Permenter didn't look at the hoop until the final five minutes. That's when he made his three shots...More on the scrimmage and a feature on Brian McKenzie in Sunday's Journal.
