Joe Mazzulla, the Johnston native who was injured all last season with a fracture of his left shoulder, has been reinstated to play again this year at West Virginia. Mazzulla was suspended last April by coach Bob Huggins after getting arrested and charged with domestic battery on a woman at a Morgantown bar called the Lazy Lizard.

After spending his summer at WVU, Mazzulla pled guilty to a charge of disorderly conduct on Aug. 14. He was ordered to perform 40 hours of community service and pay a fine and court costs.

"Joe has done everything that has been asked of him on all fronts," Huggins said in a release last week. "I believe he deserves to be back on our roster and play for the Mountaineers."

If healthy, Mazzulla is expected to contend for a starting position for a Mountaineer team that is regarded as a preseason favorite to contend for a Big East championship.

Kevin,

Let's not forget about the ruckus that Mazzulla caused at the Pittsburgh Pirates last summer when he was still a student at West Virginia. You know – he was convicted of underage drinking, resisting arrest, and assaulting a police officer.

So, let me get this straight. In addition to his moronic tirade in the Steel City, he managed to get himself in more trouble by beating up a woman at a local bar in Morgantown…?

Wow. Nothing short of a class act. I bet all the RI fans (URI and PC) are really regretful that he didn’t sign there. As you can all tell – Huggins asks a lot from his players.

Here's the link to Mazzulla's gem at PNC Park.
