Former Boston College women's basketball coach Cathy Inglese is being introduced as the new head coach at the University of Rhode Island.
The university scheduled a noon news conference Tuesday to make the announcement. Jodi Pontbriand, URI's coordinator of sports communication, confirmed that Inglese is the new coach.
Inglese resigned from BC last year after 15 seasons. She won 20 games eight times and reached the NCAA tournament in seven of her last 10 seasons.
She'll replace Tom Garrick, who went 56-112 in five seasons at Rhode Island.
Garrick was a star player on the URI men's team and later played in the NBA for the Los Angeles Clippers, San Antonio Spurs, Minnesota Timberwolves and Dallas Mavericks.
