North Carolina's victory over Michigan State last night for the national championship capped an NCAA Tournament run in which the Tar Heels won all six of their games by double digits, and averaged a 20.2 margin of victory.

That average is the largest by a national champion since Rick Pitino's 1996 Kentucky Wildcats won six tournament games by an average of 21.5 points, although Kentucky did not win every game by double digits, as the Heels did this season. The last team to accomplish that feat was the 2001 Duke Blue Devils, who unlike North Carolina had to overcome a big deficit to win the national championship game that season, over Maryland.

North Carolina last night set an NCAA championship game for most first-half points scored (55) and largest halftime lead (21 points). The 17-point victory was the most lopsided final score in a national title game since 1992, when Duke beat Michigan's Fab Five freshmen by 20 points.
