Why Do We Have To Watch Duke?

Sanity in the midst of March Madness . . .

So, having taken a break from basketball for a couple of hours -- yes, I admit it, I'm not watching every minute of every game -- I turn the tube back on and what do I see?

Duke versus Binghamton.

Like that's going to be a nail-biter.

I have to assume that game is on because of Duke's "national appeal." Lots of people love 'em. Lots of people hate 'em. I don't care one way or the other about 'em. Which is why I don't want to watch 'em play a perfunctory first-round game.

Although, having said that, I would very much have enjoyed watching unheralded Belmont in its oh-so-close (71-70) bid to upset the second-seeded Blue Devils last season.

But couldn't CBS, in the event Binghamton threatens to pull off a huge upset, cut away to that game and, in the meantime show us either UCLA vs. VCU or Illinois vs. Western Kentucky, both of which promised to be much more closely-contested affairs?

Yet another reason to dislike the Dookies and whoever it is at CBS who's convinced that all America wants to watch them all the time.
