It's been an ugly, sloppy half for the URI Rams at Niagara, where Jim Baron's team is playing tonight in the first round of the NIT. Yet the Purple Eagles, who didn't have a field goal in the final 2:46 of the half, have struggled to put the ball in the basket as well, and the Rams trail by only four points at halftime, 32-28.

The Rams just barely avoided their lowest-scoring half of the entire season -- that was their 25-point first-half output against Temple back on Feb. 8. URI trailed by eight points with just over two minutes to go before the Rams were able to trim the lead.

Jimmy Baron leads the Rams with a game-high 9 points, but he has had trouble finding open looks and is shooting just 4 for 10 from the field, including 1 for 4 from 3-point range.

Jason Francis has 6 points in the half, which equals his highest points total of the season.

Niagara, which is shooting just 35 percent, has been led by center Benson Egemonye, who has 8 points and six rebounds. The Purple Eagles are outrebounding Rhody, 21-14.

Both teams have committed plenty of turnovers: 10 for URI and nine for Niagara.
