Paul Kenyon: Hi everyone.
Welcome to March Madness.

There's nothing like it for those of us who enjoy college basketball. I'll focus on URI talk primarily and Kevin NcNamara will be here for Friars' discussion.

Kevin McNamara: I'm here college hoops warriors. We have some time before the train to New York starts chugging. Fire away on all things PC/URI/NCAA and NIT.

Keaney_Blue: OK, was "The Pick" legal? From where I was standing it certainly looked like Glass had a running start. It looked more like a block from a pulling offensive guard rather than a pick from a forward.

Paul Kenyon: Hi Keaney, Great question. That has been the single biggest topic of discussion since the UMass game.

My reaction, on seeing the play live, was that the pick was totally legal and a great play by UMass. Like everyone else, I was following Lowe and the ball and did not see how Matt Glass got to the spot to see the screen. That's why I did not make a big issue of it in the game story.

Later, when I saw the television replays, I came away with a very different reaction. The replays show how Glass came over from the middle of the court, saw how the play was developing and arrived at almost the same time as Lamonte Ulmer, the defender.

It was much more questionable than I first thought. It very well might have been illegal, but it was very, very close either way.

That being said, it is not the type of call a good official would make with the game on the line. You would not expect an official to decide a game with a call like that.

They let the players decide it and Chris Lowe did. He made a great play to win it.

chevychasemdFriar: what are the chances PC gets in the NCAA tourney if they win only one game in the BET. on that note who is there most likely opponent to play in 1st round if Syracuse wins/loses on saturday. thanks

Kevin McNamara: Here is my current take on PC's post-season situation. The Friars MUST beat Cincinnati (yes, I think DePaul has no chance) on Wednesday. Then they play Louisville. In order to lock in a bid, they MUST beat the Cardinals, which is a very tall order. The real question is does one win get the Friars in. Right now I say no. The unexpected rise of the Big Ten teams and a few mid-major issues (like Creighton being alive and St. Mary's back in the mix) has put a squeeze on bids. What we can debeate today are the credentials of some of the B10, ACC, Mountain West teams in the mix .

zack: kevin,if the friars and syracuse both finish at 10-8,do the friars get the 7 seed in the bigeast tourney because friars are 1-0 against orange this season,or do they decide the higher seed by overall record? and what happens if wvu,su,and pc finish 10-8? and what do you think pc will have to do to make the ncaa tourny?

Kevin McNamara: This question is now moot.

friarstar: Kevin, I've had my fill of bracketology that changes every five minutes. To me, it comes down to PC needing to beat Louisville on Thursday in order to dance, and that aint happening....so on to something else to talk about...recruiting. 1) Are you hearing anything about a probable/possible transfer to open up another spot for PC's 2010 class? 2) Can you see a quality underclass verbal before June?

Kevin McNamara: Hey Star, get off our cloud. The Friars are going to New York with a chance at an NCAA berth. That's big news for a program that hasn't been this close in five years. Enjoy it. You might not be this close for another five years....we'll hit recruiting later in this chat.

bos8: Any news on the URI recruiting front? I know Akeem Richmond out of North Carolina was at the Umass, as was the Wincendon Prep team. I figured that Wincendon was there to see Rickey Harris and Keith Cothran play, but any chance we are after any of those kids? Are there any other names you have heard floating around?

Paul Kenyon: Hi Bo8,

You might know as much or more about the recruiting situation as I do. You are correct that they had the kid from North Carolina at the game Saturday and that the Winchendon Academy team was there, too.

As you know Ryan Brooks has signed, and they have unofficially gotten a power forward from Europe. They need guards now, especially a shooter.

Sorry I can't be of much help beyond that. I'll enjoy what is happening now and think recruiting after we're done.

Kevin McNamara: Some additional URI recruit talk...Levan Shengalia, the URI verbal from the country of Georgia, is playing at a independent school in North Carolina right now. His opponents have been strong teams like Oak Hill, Patterson School and Charris Prep. Shengalia, a 6-9 forward, is holding his own in these games but far from dominating. A good sign. The key is admissions as getting a foreign player into school has been a problem for Jim Baron...beyond that, the Rams are shopping for a wing scorer (and 3-point shooter) right now.

Paul Kenyon: Those of us who read the Journal chat board regularly know exactly where you stand on Coach Baron. He obviously is a big topic of discussion, which is understandable.

After the announcement today that Baron has been selected A-10 coach of the year for the fourth time, there can be no doubt about how the rest of the conference feels about him. Winning the award four times shows the respect his peers have for him.

That being said, I don't think I would have voted for him this year. I thought Ron Everhart at Duquesne should have been recognized for the job he has done in rebuilding the Dukes program.

My feeling is that Jim Baron is a good, solid college basketball coach. His strength is putting programs together the right way and carrying them out the right way. But he still has to show he can compete with the top level coaches. He still has to show he can get a team to the NCAA Tournament.

He and his team will have a chance to do that over the next couple weeks

RhodeWarrior: As you know I am not a large Jim Baron fan for is coaching ability and while I am indeed happy for his award how about the job Ron Everhardt is doing over at Duquesne. Where do you rank Coach Baron on his collective body or work compared to other A-10 coaches? Do you see him in the top 25% of the league, average or below average. I know you guys are big supporters of him so I like the advocate point of view-- where do you realistically rank him across the body of his work in preparing a team for NCAA contention year in and year out?

Paul Kenyon: Sorry, I was responding to this question.

RhodeWarrior: Will the ProJo have anyone live at the A-10 tournament this week? If so how many games will you be covering and will you have coverage for the full tournament in your paper?

Kevin McNamara: Paul is headed to Atlantic City and I'll be in New York. We stay until the teams lose. Hopefully that's Saturday for both teams.

Bruce: Paul: Let's get to the bottom line. How many games does URI have to win to get into the NCAAs and does one of the wins have to be against either Dayotn or Xavier?

Paul Kenyon: Bruce, From where I sit, the magic number is 24 to be in the NCAA discussion on Sunday. The Rams are at 22 wins now. They need to win at least two games to become serious contenders. For that reason, I think they should root for Dayton to reach the semifinals. URI needs to win in the semis under any circumstances. But it will be more much more if it is a victory over Dayton, which has great RPI numbers. By the same token, URI should be rooting for Xavier to get to the final. If the Rams reach the final and lose to the Muskies, they still figure to be very much in the discussion. But if it is Temple which beats URI in the title game, then URI would be in big trouble. Temple and Xavier would likely be the A-10 teams selected.

For what it's worth, the A-10 had a note in its daily release today _ the top seed has not won the title since 2002.

RhodeWarrior: Gents, thanks again for taking the time. My question is that while I realize that Rhody lacks the WOW factor wins they also have not been blown out by anyone other than Villanova. They also have been a very good road team and have performed well in the Atlantic 10. Why do you think the A-10 does not get more respect. How can the second place team in the conference have to win their conference title to get a bid? Do you think the A-10 is that bad or do you think they get a bad rap? I think the top end of our conference can compete with anyone and while the bottom of our conference is not great they are not exactly pathetic either. What is your opinion?

Kevin McNamara: I think both PC and URI pose interesting questions for the committee. Namely, do both teams get any credit at all for their losses. Now crediting a team for losing is going down a slippery slope but let's look at the evidence. First, the Rams. Besdies the Villanova loss, they do not have one bad loss all season, or at least one where they got bopped pretty good. That includes the narrow defeat at Duke, the last-second loss at Providence, at Oklahoma State and the home loss to Xavier. Those are all vital losses but also very, very close losses. Will the committee see that and say `they can't beat good teams' or say `they are right there and deserve a chance.'......As for the Friars, they have four losses (UConn, Louisville, 2 to VNova) against teams in the top dozen on the computer. A load of teams they are competing with (like New Mexico, Creighton, South Carolina all never even played those teams. Does PC receive a bit of credit for those `good' losses. By the way, I do not feel that margin of defeat enters into the picture. We don't need to encourage blowouts in college basketball...As to the perception of the Atlantic 10, the teams are not on ESPN enough and committee members don't get a chance to see how tough URI-Dayton-Temple-Xavier are. Those teams can clearly play with anyone.

RhodeWarrior: For a 2 seed in the A-10 tourney I am not thrilled about Rhody's first round draw-- do you think the two of the three toughest matchup's for the RAMS are UMASS and Duquesne? Other than Xavier these are the two teams I fear the most as they match up with us well- what are your thoughts and what do the RAMS need to do to insure that they get to the conference finals? Who is your going in favorite to win both the Big East and A-10 tournaments?

Paul Kenyon: Hi Rode,We agree on this one.

I very much agree that the draw is a difficult one for the Rams. The last two games of the season, against the Dukes and the Minutemen, both went down to the last shot. Obviously, both were great games.

I've liked Duquesne's talent all year and I think that UMass had trouble adjusting to a new coach, but now is playing much better.

Beyond the fact that the match-ups are tough, the pace of play will be fast, regardless of the opponent. In an event in which teams have to play three or four days in a row, that could cost the survivor in the semis and/or the final.

Anyone who can pick a winner in Boardwalk Hall should also visit one of the casinos in Atlantic City. It is more wide open that ever. If you forced me to make a pick, I'd say URI and Dayton get to the semis and whoever wins that game wins the title.

I love Pittsburgh in the Big East.

gman: Kevin---its too bad that some of PC losses we close and they really could have been sitting at 21-8--agree?

Kevin McNamara: If the Friars do not make the NCAA's, I feel they will be one or two wins short. The one win could've come against Northeastern to open the season, against Baylor or St. Mary's in California or in the Big East where they had chances against Marquette and Villanova. Make PC 20-10 right now and I think they'd be locks.

Kevin McNamara: Paul just answered this question and I agree that the A-10 draw isn't the best for Rhody. However after Richmond just beat Xavier, it is clear that something crazy can occur in ACity. I always like the teams with byes in these tournaments. In New York, I like Pittsburgh as well. They always fare well in the tournament and have the depth and physical bodies to win three tough games in a row.

Kevin McNamara: I know Mike has said that I would be around more from 1-2 p.m but we are calling for all questions now. Message your friends and tell them to bring it on!!

bos8: I didn't get a chance to see the first URI-Umass game. Did Umass use the jump trap defense? That really seemed to take us out of our offensive flow. Have they been using that all year?

Paul Kenyon: Bos8, Good point about the trap. It is very new and it definitely has helped the Minutemen.

The team did none of it in the first meeting with URI. I asked about it during the game Saturday, when they came out trapping. I was told that the Minutemen went to the trap three games ago as a change of pace.

It turned out they played well with it, so they decided to stay with it. They used it in the victory over George Washington and won convincingly.

It definitely has helped them, not only because it has worked well, but also because it has quickened the pace of games. Chris Lowe, in particular, as well as Ricky Harris, Matt Glass and some of the others, have played better in the quicker paced game, which is what UMass did last year under Travis Ford.

As I mentioned in an earlier question, I've liked Duquesne as a contender all year. But I think UMass is a real threat to the Dukes Wednesda

Kevin McNamara: Wow GMan. You must read the Journal a lot. It's is Efejuku. Sorry to be a bit harsh but the kid is a senior...NBA scouts have quietly talked about Weyinmi for 2-3 years. More than one has told me, ``that kid is the only NBA athlete on the floor.'' Of course being an athlete and a player are 2 totally different things and Efejuku has really turned up his game in the last month. I would be shocked if he is not invited to the Portsmouth camp for NBA prospects and he does have a chance to get drafted.

RhodeWarrior: What was your impression of Phil Martelli and his classless comments last week on the A-10 conference call? Did the ProJo have any luck getting in touch with him to get further perspective on his comments and why as an ambassador of the league he would take cheap shots at Rhody? Do you know of any previous friction between him and URI or him and Jim Baron in the past? Do you have any insight?

Paul Kenyon: Rhode,

The Martelli-Joe Lunardi talk on our chat board for the past week has been fun, but one of those situations that was a bit fabricated.

A reporter from Dayton was doing a story on Dayton's post-season chances. Martelli responded by saying Xavier and Dayton were both in great shape but that everyone else in the conference needed to do more.

He was correct. Even URI fans at the time were saying the same thing. URI fans got upset because Martelli did not push for them. But he was just giving his opinion, one many of us shared.

There is no animosity between the Hawks and Rams that I know of beyond normal rivalries.

RhodeWarrior: OK, that sparks another thought-- did it seem that the calls down the stretch in the URI game were not in Rhody's favor-- not only the Matt Glass one but the 5 second call on Marquis as well as the blocked shot by Seawright-- all three were blown calls to me in crunch time. Your thoughts?

Kevin McNamara: RW, I think Paul has answered the Matt Glass pick-foul call well. I was not at the game but saw all the replays on TV. The Seawright foul was indeed a foul. He came across Bonner's shoulders and fouled him. The only joke call was the 5-second call on Marquis Jones. To call that as he was moving forward with the game clock inside 2 minutes is a joke. Just a real bad call.

Bruce: I have looked at several proposed brackets and it seems to me that the 8-9 teams and the "bubble" teams are considerably weaker than in the past years. In fact, the difference between the elite teams and the rest of the other teams seem to be much more pronounced this year. Agree ot disagree?

Kevin McNamara: I'd have to agree Bruce but the question is there does your cut line begin? I've seen several brackets that have Texas A&M a 7 seed and a Butler a 6 seed. I don't think either team scares me at all. I think that somewhere on the 3 or 4 line the teams begin to blur. There is no difference between Missouri and a LSU and a Boston College, for example. And they could be seeded 4, 6 and 10. The bubble teams are always seen as weaker and that's why I feel they should go to the bigger conferences. Those teams are tested. Teams like Creighton are not. In fact, the Blue Jays just got tested in theri own league and lost by 25 points! Villanova was probably the last team into last year's field (a 12 seed). They made the Sweet 16.

basketball101: Kevin If Tim Welch coached PC this year wold they have faired any better or worse?

Kevin McNamara: It is Welsh, not Welch. And Bill Reynolds is writing a Tim Welsh column for Tuesday's Journal...your question is unanswerable, really. I think with Sharaud Curry, Welsh could've won as many, if not more, games as the coach this season.

DanaRocchio: Should there be an infinite number of teams per conference?

Kevin McNamara: I think you mean is there a cap on the number of teams that go to the NCAA's from a given league. The answer is no. They could take 10 Atlantic 10 teams if they merit inclusion.

pcred: kevin you say pc is fiveyears away from another run why? don't like their recruiting.

Kevin McNamara: Don't take that remark the wrong way. What it means is that you never know about recruiting. I hear good things about the 7 recruits Keno Davis is bringing in but I know one thing about the Big East and new players: they don't mix. A PC team with Sharaud Curry and Brian McKenzie as the only returnees of note next season is going to be short on experience in a league that demands experience, or superb talent. The seasons after next will lie in the hands of recruits. How soon do they come together? Is it 2 years, 3 or 4 as it took with this current group? Now you understand what I mean. I hope.

NancyN: If PC is to get by Cinncinati, what can they do to stop Louisville? How do the teams match up and where are the strengths/weaknesses in the match up? (trying to ignore the blow out in Kentucky)

Kevin McNamara: Good question, Nancy. I was not at the PC-Louisville game but did notice that the Friars shot 75 percent against the Cards at Freedom Hall. That gives me hope if I'm a PC fan. LVille is playing very well right now but its calling card is defense and if PC does not turn the ball over it will score on anyone in the league (maybe not UConn). The key is dealing with Pitino's press. It can be swarming.

MikeNYC: Who we rooting for tonight? Siena & Gonzaga?

Paul Kenyon: Mike,

If you are a PC or URI fan, you sure do want Gonzaga and Siena to win.

Gonzaga looks to be safe regardless of what happens. Siena could be in trouble if it does not win the MAAC.

The Rams and Friars want them both to be in. It makes for two fewer teams in the bubble discussion for the committee Sunday night.

pcred: san diego state and new mexico over pc i don't think so

Kevin McNamara: I'm with you Red. I don't see the love for these Mountain West teams...The teams you want to see lose are as follows: New Mexico-San Diego State-UNLV in the MWest; Auburn-South Carolina-Florida in the SEC; Penn State and Minnesota in the Big 10, Maryland in the ACC, to name a few.

MikeNYC: Do you think any of the 5-8 seeds have a shot at winning the Big East tourney this year? Those top teams are REAL good.

Kevin McNamara: If you are talking about winning the entire tournament, I agree with you. I always like the top 4 who are getting byes and considering that 3 of them could be number one seeds in the NCAA's, they are REAL good. That said, I think Villanova and Syracuse can do damage.

Kevin McNamara: Sorry about that. I meant to type Marquette and Syracuse, the 5th and 6th seeds.

devo: Kevin, I didn't like your comment that PC fans should enjoy how close we are to a NCAA berth because it might not happen again for 5 years. We have returning an excellent senior point guard and scorer in Curry, a great defender and scorer in Brooks which you skipped in your just posted comment, as well as Mckenzie returning after an off year plus 2 red shirts, a couple of jucos and a slew of freshmen. Can you please evaluate next year's recruits/red shirts player-by-player?

Kevin McNamara: You are correct. I did skip Marshon Brooks. My mistake. He can be a top-level Big East player with increased strength. But I still see next year as a major rebuilding season...The redshirts and recruits have to rebuild a frontcourt decimated by departures. And losing a big-time scorer like Weyinmi Efejuku is a tough blow...I have not seen any of the frontcourt recruits so I will not evaluate them. I do like Bilal Dixon a lot and felt that redshirting Greedy Peterson this season was a mistake. He would help you win games right now. I also am not writing off Alex Kellogg just yet. He'll get a chance to make his mark.....But ask yourself this question: Can next year's team win 10 Big East games and 18-19 overall? My money is on no.

DonaRocchio: No, my question, better said, is why so many teams per conference? Why not take the top 2, 3, or 4 teams and call it a day. You achieve a status within your league and you play for a championship--in my opinion, more than 4 teams per conference is maybe too many but certainly better than 8, 9, or 10. Is it about the money?

Kevin McNamara: All leagues are not equal. That's the issue. If they ever change the tournament, it should go to 128 teams and guarantee every league get 2 teams in. But letting Yale into this tournament right now as a 2nd Ivy team would be a total joke.

pcred: as a pc fan would love see jay wright go to kentucky and pitino go to arizona.

Kevin McNamara: You'd like that but probably wouldn't like how good their replacements are. Those are big-time programs and the program is often more important than the coach.

MikeNYC: I know its about teams but don't you think the Big 10 is a joke (sans mich. st.). These teams cannot score and the tournament will prove that quickly. The games are unwatchable. I just think its absurd they could possibly have same amount of teams in as the big east.

Kevin McNamara: Bingo Mike. Ask Paul Kenyon how good Penn State is. He saw URI beat the Lions. All I know is Michigan State lost to NCarolina by 30 and beating Illinois twice is not as impressive as beating West Virginia twice. Beating Louisville and Villanova twice. Now that's impressive.

MikeNYC: I know its about teams but don't you think the Big 10 is a joke (sans mich. st.). These teams cannot score and the tournament will prove that quickly. The games are unwatchable. I just think its absurd they could possibly have same amount of teams in as the big east.

Paul Kenyon: Mike,

If the tournament field was selected today, the Big Ten probably would get eight teams in.

Then five of them, or more, would lose on the first weekend.

I agree with you. It is easily the most overrated league in the country.

Penn State looks as if it is in. I saw URI beat Penn State at The Palestra. If they played again tomorrow, I'd very much like the Rams' chances to win again.

pcred: have you seen tim welsh do any games yet he was good the other day doing the ohio valley game.

Kevin McNamara: I did see parts of that Ohio Valley game..Tim is very good on TV. Reports on his SNY gig in the studio for Big East games are very positive. Too bad COX does not pick up that channel.

warrior: who will transfer out from providence this year?

Kevin McNamara: Don't have any indication right now that anyone wants to leave...You have some dirt for us on that front, Warrior?

bos8: Will the A-10 look to eliminate teams now that they have a new commish? A team like Fordham has been in the conference for 15 years, and has really only had two or three competive years.

Paul Kenyon: Bos,

I don't know if you've seen the stories in the New York papers in the last couple weeks about Fordham. They have revolved around discussions about whether Fordham should be in the A-10 because it has not made the commitment in facilities and other areas that other programs have.

It is just the start.

There will be movement soon in all of college sports. The 14 and 16-team conferences will be broken up. Kevin McNamara has written stories for us about the football-basketball schools going their separate ways.

It is going to happen, the only question is when. The bad news for the A-10 is that it cannot take the lead. It will have to wait for the dominos to fall, at least to some degree, to see where everyone ends up. As you know, the A-10 already has split apart from football.

In these tough times, travel costs also are becoming a major factor. Geography could help determine where schools like URI end up.

warrior: Sorry, I do not. Whos are the coaches on the "hot seat" in the big east and acc?

Kevin McNamara: Warrior, we'll have a better feel on that this week in New York but I am hearing Norm Roberts is safe at St. John's. The other possibility must be DePaul where Jerry Wainwright finished 0-18. DePaul has come out in support of its coach but we'll see if anything changes. I would keep Wainwright, if anyone is asking.

pcred: will pc still be playing syracuse in five years?

Kevin McNamara: I would think you are referring to a Big East split. I know the league has TV contracts in place until 2013. Don't see any movement before then.

tickets: any chance of buying single session tickets at the box office for thursday's games?

Kevin McNamara: Tickets are sold out in New York. There will be tickets on the street, so bring extra cash. The Thursday sessions are big sellers, tough tickets. Good luck but $100 should get you in. That is a guess. Paul Kenyon tells me plenty of tix available in AtlCity.

pcred: st jhon's should hire al skinner.

Kevin McNamara: BC is a better job. Al going nowhere...except to the NCAA's once again.

warrior: I am hearing Virginia is ready to move out Dave L, and Fred Hill will not be there next year.

Kevin McNamara: I can see Virginia making a move. It's not working there. As for Fred Hill, he will be back next season with serious heat to move Rutgers into the top 8-10 of the Big East.

ric79: Kevin- Beating Pitt should be equal to Penn St beating Illinois twice. There is no comparison between Pitt and Illinois. I don't like the fact that the selection committee groups wins as Top 25 or Top 50. You have to look into those numbers. I believe there is a huge difference between beating number 1 verse number 25.

Kevin McNamara: Bingo RIC. I cannot agree more. We'll see if the committee agrees. There is a giant difference between 1-2-3-4 and 13-14-15.

basketball101: How would you rate Keno's coaching for his first year at PC?

Kevin McNamara: He's done a very good job with the offense in bringing the scoring talents of players like Efejuku, Curry, Brooks and Kale into the forefront. Obviously the defensive end of the floor hasn't been good. That could just be the overall weakness of the frontcourt on defense and lack of aggression by the guards...Keno likes to say his defense has been pretty good against teams that are not ranked in the top 10-15 in the country. That is true but in the Big East there always are teams ranked that highly. You have to beat some of them. That's the challenge.

MikeNYC: Tickets will be easily scalpable.. and they will be cheaper if one of the big dogs go down on thursday

Kevin McNamara: Agree.

warrior: Last question, could you break down the salary levels for coaches in Big East along with their 1 assistant, 2 assistant, etc..

Kevin McNamara: Odd question but with 16 schools there is quite a range of salary numbers. At the top end, HC makes $2-3 million. Top assistants can make $300,000. Most assistants all make $100,000-plus.

pcred: saw a 1999 pc game against villnova the other day on espn classic, wow jamel thomas was good.

Kevin McNamara: Word Red. He could score. he was 1st team all-league for a reason.

ric79: Kevin- It seems to me that the current PC team actually played zone better, although not good, under the previous staff. Grant it, the two zones are different with Keno's being more of a matchup, but I am seeing more wide open guys this year than in years past. Comments?

Kevin McNamara: I would agree that last year's team played better defense. I also note that this year's Big East is a bit tougher than last year but that is a pretty relative point...They need to get better defensively and find some kids who can play man-to-man.

MikeNYC: Lets talk the real tourney, who's your sleepers and who's your winner? I'm feeling Louisville to win it all.. that press is too good

Paul Kenyon: Mike,

The tournament looks like last year _ it is another good year to stay with the chalks.

Everyone likes to talk about the parity in the game, but the teams at the top seem to be clearly better right now. Even with all its problems, I still like North Carolina. I agree with you on Louisville. Oklahoma, as long as Blake Griffin is healthy, has to be considered, too.

How deep do we go for sleepers? I loved the way Marquette was playing, but with Dominic James gone, they are not the same team.

I just yelled over to Kevin about a sleeper. He said Florida State sticks out for him.

bos8: Whats the word on Orion Outerbridge contributing next season? I saw him play a couple of times, and he looks raw. He doesn't play like Kahiem. He is more up and down, and much more athletic, but lacks post moves of discipline on the defensive end. Has he improved enough to contribute next season, or will we be seeing a lot of Monty, Del and Will at the 3-4-5 next season?

Paul Kenyon: Bos,

If someone asked what the biggest mistake URI made all season was, I would say it was Orion Outerbridge.

Playing him, I mean. They should have red-shirted him.

I like Outerbridge. A lot. In the practices I attended, he held his own. He is 6-9, runs well, is a terrific defender and a shot blocker. He needs to gain strength, but I think he is going to be a very good player before he is finished.

It would be great if he still had four years, not three.

MikeNYC: Back to your Keno Question... how was his Drake team defensively? We're not looking to just outscore teams the next 5 years i hope

Kevin McNamara: Not sure if this is an every year plan, but I think it is. keno would like to score 90 points a game. That means a lot of possessions for both teams and chance for defensive numbers to always be pretty high...he says he's focused on defensive FG percentage more than points allowed. My point is when you need to stop somebody late in a game, they need to be able to get that stop.

pcred: question for mr kenyon do you think uri plays too fast sometimes.

Paul Kenyon: Hi PCRED,

I'd say no to that. With the team URI has, it can never play too fast.

The team is built around speed. Virtually everyone on the roster is better playing the fast-paced style. Jim Baron took a major gamble making the chance to this new system, but it obviously is the right decision for this personnel.

I'm betting it will not change next year, either.

MikeNYC: Lunardi's new bracketology just came out. he's the only one i trust with this stuff. Prov is next 4 out. He's got creighton and davidson ahead of us... you think 1 win more vs. cincy jumps us back ahead?

Kevin McNamara: Joe is very good at what he does but since PC lost to Villanova they've gone from second team out to 7th or 8th out. What changed? I have a problem with the following teams ahead of Providence: Creighton, Davidson, South Carolina, New Mexico...One win over Cincinnati might not change Joe's mind.

Kevin McNamara: Hope everyone enjoyed these 2 hours. We'll have plenty of coverage on PC & URI through this week. Stay tuned.

Paul Kenyon: Thanks Rhode Warrior and everyone else.

It was fun. Hope we're all still talking local basketball for another two weeks or more.
