Frank Haith, head coach of the University of Miami, faced reporters yesterday, but his opening statement had nothing to do with his team's game in Providence tomorrow night.
Instead, it was meant to preempt questions about his future, after a report that Haith was interested in taking over the coaching job at the University of Alabama. This season was Haith's fifth in Miami.
Here's what Haith said, according to the Miami Herald:
"Obviously I've heard the rumors about me looking at other jobs, or people being interested in me and that's just what they are -- rumors. I'm not going to give that any time, each time my name is mentioned with a job. I want to get that out there first so we can move on to something important, which is us being in the postseason four out of five years."
At least Haith didn't deny anything: Never trust a man who denies that he is planning to leave Miami for Alabama.
Haith also joined the parade of coaches upset about their seeding in various postseason tournaments, when he complained about the Hurricanes having to go on the road to face the Friars. Miami's home court, the BankUnited Center, is being rented out for other events, and the 'Canes apparently failed to find another suitable venue in South Florida.
"I don't know what to say. It's disappointing," Haith said.
