The Providence College Friars avoided an embarrassing -- and potential devastating -- defeat on Saturday night.
PC jumped ahead by 20 in the first half, and then let lowly Rutgers cut the lead all the way to a single point late in the game. But the Friars regrouped and came away with a 78-68 victory at the Dunkin' Donuts Center.
Providence improved its Big East record to 8-5, and is now 16-9 overall. Rutgers is 1-11 and 10-15.
