Kevin talks about the Friars' showing at Georgetown, the importance of winning big games at home, matchup problems presented by Marquette, and the PC-Louisville showdown that will be on TV just before the Friars play the Golden Eagles.
Here's what Kevin said about the Marquette matchup:
"An awful lot of people have said to me in the last couple of days that this is a game Providence can win. They match up very similar to Marquette, and I think the thought process is that they don't have a lot of good big guys, they're a perimeter-dominated team just like Providence is. Well, that may be true, but Marquette has been in the NCAA Tournament the last three years, really riding on the shoulders of three seniors. They're an extremely experienced team that has won. Providence is an experienced team that has yet to win. So I think it's dramatically different.
"Providence wants to be where Marquette has been and is right now -- a top 15 team, senior-dominated. They're a very difficult team to play because offensively they shoot the ball well from the outside, so that can damage a zone defense, and yet they're probably the best penetrating wing group in the country, in the three guys that they have [at guard]: Dominic James, Wesley Matthews and Jerel McNeal. So I'm sure Providence will play it's zone, the matchup zone. -- that's what they've played the last couple of weeks now -- and just cross their fingers that Marquette is not shooting the lights out."
You may be right, but PC came within 7 of upsetting Georgetown with biased officiating against PC, per Joe Hasset, who ought to know, on the road! The oddsmakers must be listening because they pick Marquette by 2 @ the Dunk. What that says to me is that the oddsmakers think PC has the goods to beat a top 20 team, and they put $ on it. That's the way I read it, and if I were Keno that's what I would tell the team! Go get em PC!
