I'll be flying to Seattle tomorrow for the Pats-Seahawks game on Sunday, so I won't get to see the Friars host URI at the Dunk. Too bad, because I'm curious to see what tactics new PC coach Keno Davis employs against the Runnin' Rams. Davis likes his Friars to press. Rhody clearly wants to run. So will PC be playing into URI's hands by trying to force an uptempo game? Now, if Keno presses, and the Friars win, then it will be a testament to PC's talent and Davis' assessment of the tactical situation. On the other hand, if PC presses, and URI winds up with an abundance of open shots, and wins the game, what will that mean? The best coaches match their team's strengths to their opponent's weaknesses and play in a style that best suits that particular game. Lesser coaches know only one way to play and stick with it, come hell or high water. The press may prove to be the way to go for PC. It may not. That's what we'll find out. But what will be most interesting to see is what adjustments Davis makes, if necessary. Tomorrow's game could provide the best, first-hand look fans get at just how sharp he is as a "game" coach. Since Davis was national Coach of the Year last season at Drake, you'd have to figure the man knows what he's doing. In any event, you'll see tomorrow in what is far and away the Main Event of the pre-conference season for both teams. Unfortunately, I'll be flying.
