PROVIDENCE - Don't look at the final score. This was a very, very tough night for the Providence Friars.
PC came out flat off its 10-day exam break and watched Jackson State make 10 of its first 12 shots and spring out to a 21-10 lead. The Friars rallied at around the 9 minute mark but the visiting Tigers closed the half strong for a 43-32 halftime lead. JSU shot 62 percent in the first half.
The Friars needed to regroup quickly and did so at the start of the second half as they opened the half with a 24-6 run. PC led by as many as 10 in the second half but JSU cut it to six with three minutes left. Some strong second half efforts from Weyinme Efejuku (17 points), Randall Hanke (11 points) and Geoff McDermott (13 points, 11 rebounds) held nail down the 85-71 win for the Friars.
We'll have more on the game later.
