High school hoops is opening around the country this week and it'll be interesting to watch the progress of the Friars (and Rams, Bears and Bulldogs) signees.
While PC signees Johnnie Lacy (Notre Dame Prep) and Kyle Wright (Monroe, NY JUCO) are off to impressive starts, two prep players from Michigan are not.
Guard Duke Mondy is leading the top-ranked team in Upper Michigan at Grand Rapids Central Catholic but he was held out of his team's opener this week after failing to meet academic requirements. His team lost the opener but Mondy is expected back for Game number Two.
Down in Detroit, the prep season began with a big game between Detroit Community and Detroit Jesuit. It loomed as a battle between PC signee James Still (6-9) and Jordan Morgan, a 6-8 forward headed to Michigan. It just didn't pan out that way.
Here is a link to the game story. Seems like Big James needs a good guard to get him the ball.
Down in Atlanta, PC signee Kadeem Batts is helping his team to a 6-0 start for the McEachern Indians. He does have a good guard to play with, Trae Golden. He is one of the top junior prospects in the country. The Indians are ranked fifth in the state's strong Class 5A ratings.
Here is a Georgia state hoops preview that features McEachern as one of the top teams. Link
