High school and junior college basketball recruits can begin signing letters-of-intent on Wednesday. PC has five commits already for Keno Davis' ultra-important first class but he's hoping for a special sixth signee.
Point guard Chris Colvin, the top uncommitted player in Illinois, will apparently announce his college choice when the period opens Wednesday and then sign a letter at a press conference at his high school on November 19. That is the last day of the signing period and also his birthday. According to a story in today's Chicago Sun-Times, Colvin's father, Ike, is now saying his son has made his decision. The final five schools came down to Illinois, Sothern Cal, Washington State, Iowa State and Providence.
"He'll be an immediate impact recruit for any of the schools on that list and I would include Illinois with that," recruiting analyst Roy Schmidt told the paper.
Providence is in dire need of a pure point guard. Sharaud Curry will be a 5th year senior next season and none of the 5 commits in the class is a pure PG. Guards Duke Mondy of Michigan and Baltimore's Antoine Allen are both termed combo guards by prep scouts. If Colvin chooses Illinois, which seems to be a surprising late entry in this race, the Friars will simply move on and search for an unsigned lead guard prospect through the upcoming season.
PC's three other verbal commits are Detroit big forward James Still, Atlanta forward Kadeem Batts and Kyle Wright, a junior college shooter from Hartford, Conn.
I highly doubt a player like this will come to PC. Is Pete Gillen recruiting again? thats the last time a top flight recruit picked PC
