First-year Bryant University coach Tim O'Shea and his staff are off and running on the recruiting front.
The Bulldogs have dipped into Baltimore and received verbals from two high school teammates. They'll sign letters-of-intent next month.
Here is a press release from their high school, John Carroll.
Raphael Jordan, a 6'1 senior combo guard, has made a commitment to accept a Division I full scholarship offer to Bryant University. He joins his teammate, 6'3 shooting guard Erick Smith, who committed to the Bulldogs earlier this fall.
"It is a great fit for both Erick and Raph," explained Coach Tony Martin. "The opportunity to earn immediate playing time was significant, and Bryant is a great academic situation for both of them."
Jordan, a four year starter for the John Carroll Patriots, saw his recruitment heat up in recent weeks.
"Raphael would have had numerous opportunities had he elected to wait it out. But the coaches at Bryant came on strong, and he appreciated their loyalty to him. After his visit, he decided it was the right place to continue his academic and basketball career," said Martin.
Jordan, who will likely score his 1,000th high school point during this senior season, is currently 9th all-time in scoring in JC history. He enters this season 4th all-time in assists, 3rd all-time in free throws made, and 3rd all-time in steals. Jordan will also likely hold the all-time record for games played at the varsity level in John Carroll history at the end of his career.
"Having them both attend Bryant is a little unique," finished Martin. "But both young men earned the opportunity and made the choice to attend together. It is the realization of a dream for both of them, and we could not be happier."
Bryant is also very close with at least two big men, one from Florida and another from New England, according to sources.
