Tim Welsh on his Job Status

Speaking on a Big East conference call, PC coach Tim Welsh said he's largely ignored what is being written and said about his job status for the future. he says he's focused on the final four games of the season and getting to New York for the Big East Tournament.
Asked if he expected to return for the final year on his contract in 2008-09, Welsh answered, "Absolutely. I’ve been here 10 years. It’s obviously been a tough road this year. Losing Sharaud (Curry), when you lose your leading returning scorer it’s very, very difficult. We would have had four or five more wins with him. People here have always been great to me and I've been loyal to them. My athletic director told me before this season that the program is in as good a shape as it’s been in the last four or five years.’
That’s part of the business, speculation. You’ve go to know where you stand within the gates of your house. I feel very comfortable knowing where I stand with my president and athletic director."
PC returns to action this Saturday at West Virginia.

Gosh, how clueless can Welsh be? This isn't about Curry, this is about a ten year record. If Welsh isn't fired the AD needs to be. Does he really think this failure this year is about Curry's absence? PLEASE! Another endless Welsh excuse.

To the fellow in another blog who said we should hire Mike Jarvis - he left his last job for an NCAA violation. Not many people know that he finessed the Cambridge Rindge and Latin coaching job when Patrick Ewing was there out from under the previous basketball coach Tim Donahue. This is a matter of public record in Cambridge School committee minutes. Tim couldn't coach the team over the summer due to coaching rules, so Mike Jarvis stepped in and "offered" to coach the boys as a team over the course of the summer. Tim accepted Mike's offer. The next thing anyone knew, the team was at the Fall school committee meeting demanding that Tim was replaced as a coach by Mike Jarvis. Tim brought up his concern about how this took place but the school committee removed him from his coaching position and put Jarvis in his place. The rest is history as Jarvis used it and Patrick Ewing as his stepping stone to college coaching. So effectively, the Cambridge Ridge and Latin coach violated rules that year by coaching the boys all summer because he then became their coach that Fall. He then got into violations in college as well. It's public record folks. Check the Cambridge school committe minutes pre-season in the Fall of 1978 or 1979. So if Jarvis replaces the clown we have now when he finally gets the boot, I just don't know......

There is no doubt in my mind that Coach Welsh should keep his job. In his 10 years at PC, he has a winning record playing in the BIG EAST. He coaches for a school that has NO draw at all. This year and the last, Welsh has lost his leading returing scorer. Curry is a good player and a true point guard, and with him PC would of won at least 4 more games (just think about how many close games there have been). With Curry, PC beats Notre Dame at Notre Dame which would of been an amazing thing to start with. And with the 4 wins PC would of picked up, they would safely have a spot in the Big East Tourney, a league which presently has the most top 25 teams.
Bringing in a new coach would do nothing but set the team back from where they currently are. People don't realize how young this team is but once they gel, watch out. Welsh could of left a few years ago to go to a much better school but decided to be loyal. It is not time for Providence fans to show some loyalty themselves.
