Now this is depressing.
There are reports out of New Jersey today that a new post-season tournament competing with the NIT is going to come off this season. We haven't confirmed any of this and can't understand why the NCAA would ever allow it but the Gazelle Group, a producer of early-season tournaments, says it will sponsor a post-season event as well.
The College Basketball Invitational will be staged this March by The Gazelle Group, based in Princeton, N.J. The NCAA invites 65 teams to its tournament and the National Invitation Tournament picks another 32. Now the CBI will pick 16 more teams.
