URI continues to build what is becoming a large and impressive recruiting class for the fall of 2008.
The Rams secured their fifth verbal commitment today when Ryan Brooks picked URI over La Salle, Iona, Fordham a a few other area schools. Brooks is a 6-9 forward from Holy Spirit High in Absecon, N.J. Scouts say he is a verdatile forward who is very comfortable stepping out and shooting the ball as well as using his size inside.
Brooks joins four other recruits expected to sign with Jim Baron's team in November: Boston point guard Stevie Mejia, Philly off-guard Jamal Wilson, Massachusetts 7-footer John Hagarty and Canadian swing man Randy Dezouvre. Although URI only has three open scholarships for next fall, word is the Rams aren't done shopping. They remain in the mix with Boston big man Orien Outerbridge, a 6-9 forward/center also being looked at by Fordham, Virginia and Saint Joseph's.
