PC center Herbert Hill has won the Big East's Most Improved Player award, the Journal has learned.
Hill will receive his award tonight at a press conference at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in midtown Mahattan. The MIP award is celebrated on the same level as the player, coach, defensive player and rookie of the year awards.
Hill is the first Friar to win one of the Big East's major awards since John Linehan won the Defensive Player of the Year award in 2001. Hill was named to the 11-player All-Big East first team on Monday. The Friars begin their Big East Tournament on Wednesday nigth against West Virginia.
PC (18-11) needs to win at least three games (four would secure the league's guaranteed berth) to get back in the race for a berth in the NCAA Tournament. The Friars are a much better bet for the NIT but may need a win in New York to secure a home game in the event next week.
