The New York Times has a feature today on the development of Herbert Hill from a JV high school player in North Carolina to Big East scoring leader and NBA prospect.

Times writer Pete Thamel has some nice things to say about Tim Welsh's role in developing players like Ryan Gomes and, now, Hill: "Providence’s program has thrived on finding and polishing hidden gems, as Gomes transformed under Welsh’s watch from a chubby post player into an N.B.A.-ready small forward."

Thanks for the heads up on the Herb Hill article, it is great to see the recognition that he is getting based on all of his hard work over these past 5 years.
Off hand, is Jonathan Kale hurt? sick? He didn't play much in the Marquette, Cincinatti, and Pitt (I think Ray was a good pick off the bench against Gray) games. When he is out there with Geoff and Herb we seem to win the rebounding stats and in turn the game. I loved when Welsh had the three of them out there against Marquette (1st game) and Herb was in a position in the zone to interfere with Marquette's three point shooting.

Oh please, Welsh a good coach, hardly. His W/L record at PC is barely over 500%, he has never won a BE tourney game or a NCAA game. With Gomes in his senior year his team had a losing record. He's not a good coach, he is mediocre at best. I think he has hurt the program more than he has helped it.
