COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- The Mountain West Conference has reprimanded Utah coach Ray Giacoletti for comments he made after Saturday's overtime loss at the University of Rhode Island.
Giacoletti was upset that a foul was not called on Rhode Island players when Utah's Luke Nevill was trying to put back an offensive rebound in the last second of URI's 85-84 win.
Giacoletti said it was the "most gutless'' non-call he had seen in 21 years of coaching.
The conference's sportsmanship policy precludes public criticism of game officials.

Regardless of the score or final outcome, as a primary source having watched the incident first hand, Giacoletti should be allowed to voice his opinion. As long as it is not abusive, which his statement was not.
This is America is it not?

Louisville's situation points out how Pitino's act is getting old. His best coaching job was at PC and although he won a national Title at Kentucky his teams were loaded and underperformed. His NBA time was a forgetable stint with The Knicks and his work with the Celtics set the franchise back 10 years or more.Let alone his absolutely gutless exit from Boston.Born to Coach? Right. I'll say it again Ricky is a great salesman (which means recruiter)but his on court coaching has always been a one trick pony. Run, Press and Everybody shoots 3's and no inside game whatsoever. Nobody is fooled anymore and losing to UMass who barely beat a lousy BU team on 12-6 is making that loud and clear even to Ricky's biggest fans. I knew this day would come and it couldn't happen to a nicer guy.
