Sharaud Curry, PC’s leading scorer and backcourt leader, has been suspended from the team for an unspecified violation of team rules. He will miss Friday's important non-league game against Florida State but the length of the suspension is undefined, according to head coach Tim Welsh.
Sources close to the situation said that Curry could be back with the team by the time Big East play begins Jan. 4 against Marquette, but nothing is clear on that regard.
Welsh would not comment when asked what the nature of Curry’s infraction was but at least two sources close to the program have said in the last week that Curry may have ran into some academic difficulties. Welsh insisted Tuesday night that Curry ``is (academically) eligible to play for us right now.’’
No other Friars are involved in any eligibility issues. The team returned from Christmas break for a practice tonight at Alumni Hall.
After traveling to Florida, PC returns home for the start of the New Year and one of the busiest weeks of the season. The Friars host Longwood College on Jan. 2 and then begin Big East play with home dates against Marquette (Jan. 4) and Seton Hall (Jan. 6).
