The Friars are set to welcome Israeli guard Gal Mekal to campus this weekend. Mekal is considering Providence or Wichita State and could decide by late next week.
Mekal, who just turned 18 years old and is NOT a pro in his homeland, is considered a scoring point guard with shooting range and quickness. He recently starred at the Albert Schweitzer Games where he averaged 17.25 points.
His breakout games were a 31 point effort against Australia and a 29 point-6 assists performance against a United States team that featured future Syracuse players Antonio Jardine and Rick Jackson.
Mekal could come right in and play for the Friars in 2006-07. PC currently has four guards on its roster, sophomore Sharaud Curry and Weyinme Efejuku and incoming frosh Brian McKenzie and Jamal Barney. Curry is the only true PG in the program.
