As reported last Thursday on this ProJo Blog, Gal Mekel of Israel visited Providence College on Sunday and Monday. He visited Wichita State late last week. Mekel, a 6-3 guard, is 18 years old and considered one of the top European guard prospects who has not signed a professional contract. Mekel has been offered a deal with Israel's leading club, Maccabi Tel Eviv, but is also looking at American colleges.
One PC source said Tuesday that Mekel ``fit in well' with the Friar players now attending summer school and thought the visit went quite smoothly.
Mekel made his American trip with his father, a businessman who is a frequent visitor to the U.S. Mekel is expected to fly home later this week and make a decision on his future early next week.
One another front, incoming freshman guard Jamal Barney has left summer school and returned home to Baltimore for personal reasons. He's expected back at PC for the second summer session later this month.
Check back to this ProJo Blog for further hoop updates.

Mekel is an amazing player. Having seen him play numerous in person I am sure he can succeed in the college level and possibly in the NBA.
